Delta Health Opens Vaccine Clinic for Phase 2

Apr 2, 2021News

Delta, CO (April 2, 2021) – Seventeen-year-old Ellianna Gerhard, accompanied by her mother, April Gerhard, was one of the first teenagers in Delta County to receive a COVID-19 vaccine today.

“We were excited,” said April Gerhard. “[The vaccine] is the way to get out of the pandemic and get back to doing everything we love to do.”

On Monday, Governor Jared Polis announced that all Colorado residents 16 years of age and older will be eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine starting Friday, April 2nd. For individuals aged 16 to 18, the Pfizer vaccine is the only option to date.

For many families, the vaccine could not come soon enough.

“When we heard they were opening up to 16 and over we got signed up,” said April Gerhard. “This last year we haven’t traveled [or] seen family – really limiting our circle.”

The Delta Health vaccine clinic on April 2nd is the first to be open to those in Phase Two vaccinating over 475 people.

“It has been a very long process, but we are thrilled to be able to provide vaccine clinics to our entire community,” said Janel Webb, Director of Quality for Delta Health. “The best part is how thankful and excited people are to receive their vaccine, and we are honored to be a part of the solution.

For many, the vaccine is a sign of hope and better things to come. To Ellianna Gerhart, local teen, it means, “getting back to normal.”
